Amava Oluntu’s objective is to encourage the reconnection of youth to themselves, each other and the world, with support from already existing resources and community networks. We work with small groups of young adults who seek to make a change in their community. These youths appreciate the opportunity to be seen, heard and strengthened in their journey of personal growth and self-discovery. Sharing access to knowledge and networks enables youths to plug into already existing resources in our communities that they may not have been aware of before. Storytelling techniques and Asset-based community driven development (ABCD) have become core practices of Amava.
Between March 2022 and February 2023, the following projects were implemented to strengthen youth and community connections:
We implemented more than 20 workshops offered by local community members. Our monthly networking events at The Commons have become a platform for diverse people to mingle and connect. These events have sparked new collaborations and relationships beyond our network and given access to diverse learning pathways.
